Cleveland Cavaliers fans are still surprised and excited by the fact that their team was able to acquire De’Andre Hunter before the recent NBA trade deadline.
They weren’t sure if the Cavs were going to do anything, let alone snag such a promising young star.
Speaking on “The Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show,” Tim Alcorn touched upon what makes Hunter such an important addition to the team.
He said the Cavaliers have long needed an “athletic wing” who can “knock down a long ball” and also “defend.”
He admitted that it is tough to see Caris LeVert and Georges Niang leave the team, but this was a move that can help the Cavaliers in the punishing and nonstop pace of the postseason.
Like many other people, Alcorn believes this is a move that is all about the playoffs.
While Hunter will help the team in the present, he can also be a huge weapon when Cleveland is battling teams, especially the Boston Celtics.
Hunter could be key in slowing down or stopping players such as Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown.
In many ways, this is a trade that is all about the future.
It’s a sign that the team’s front office has the utmost belief in their players and thinks they can go far in the playoffs in the next few months.
In order to give them the best chance of success and a shot at winning a title, they need a player just like Hunter.
They had to give up a lot to get him, but the acquisition of Hunter could be completely worth it, especially if the team claims a championship.
