The Cleveland Cavaliers will focus on what they can control.
They know that everybody will give them their best effort, which is usually what happens when you have the best record in the league.
That’s why they didn’t look past the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night.
While everyone discussed the Luka Doncic trade and such, the Cavs ensured they handled their business early and seized control of the game immediately.
When asked about that, Evan Mobley praised his teammates for being locked in and looking to get the job done despite of all of the distractions:
βI feel like everyone was just locked in,β Mobley said. βEven with all the trades and everything that went on today, we just came in, locked in, ready to play. We went out there and did our job. We got off to a hot start and just kept our foot on the gas.β
This is always a complicated week around the league.
Some players tend to get anxious because of all the uncertainty about their future.
More than that, Doncic being traded pretty much makes it evident that no one might be safe.
Unfortunately, the Cavs aren’t the exception to that rule.
While none of the core players should be available, there are serious rumors about a few veterans and rotational players potentially being on their way out.
The Cavs are on the verge of being a luxury tax-paying team.
The front office claims they intend to pay the tax and maintain the team as it is, but we’ve seen and heard that multiple times before.
Kudos to the team for maintaining focus, staying locked in, and doing their job during one of the crucial weeks of the NBA season.
