The Cleveland Cavaliers proved that their hot start to the 2024-25 NBA season wasn’t just a flash in the pan.
They’ve maintained their high level of play on both ends of the court.
The Cavaliers are a juggernaut offensively, finding ways to score nearly every time down the floor, while their defense can smother opponents who struggle with size, length, and athleticism.
While Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland have carried the offense, Evan Mobley’s leap on that end has really propelled Cleveland forward.
Hopes were always high for Mobley, who has the look of the modern NBA big man, but he’s made legitimate strides both as a shooter and playmaker.
Mobley has increased his scoring output while also being able to serve as a creator near the mid-post area.
The young star big man should be on All-Star ballots this season and a perennial All-Star moving forward via Mo Dakhil of Bleacher Report.
“Let’s be clear: Evan Mobley is having a breakout season. He should make the All-Star game this season. But even if he does not, he will have a few All-Star games under his belt by 2028,” Dakhil said.
It’s hard to argue with Dakhil, as few frontcourt players are doing what Mobley is doing this season.
The usual names like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown are locks to make the All-Star Game as front-court players, so it could be tough for Mobley to crack the lineup this season.
However, his development arc suggests he’ll be a mainstay in the game in the near future.
