If the Cleveland Cavaliers lose the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks, they will have some decisions to make. They will need to decide what the future will look like, which players will stay, and which will go.
For the last few years, Evan Mobley has been holding down the team’s frontcourt. He’s been one of the most-talked-about big men in the league and won Defensive Player of the Year last season.
Speaking on 92.3 The Fan, Spencer German had great things to say about Mobley, but questioned if the team would be able to hold onto him in the postseason because of the major James Harden trade they committed to months ago.
“I don’t know if Evan Mobley’s ever going to be an MVP, but I think he’s trending towards becoming a Top 20 player in this league…and so I want that here,” German said.

Mobley produced 18.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists during the regular season, shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from the three-point line. So far during the playoffs, he has put up 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.
Mobley has been one of the most reliable parts of the Cavaliers’ lineup since being drafted in 2022-23. But there are questions about how much longer he’ll be in Cleveland.
It’s not that the Cavs don’t want Mobley anymore. Any team would want to hold onto someone of his size and talent. However, they may need to make some tough choices if they fall short of their postseason goals again.
And because of that, they will have to take a good, hard look at their contracts and consider who has to go. Mobley could bring them in a great haul in a trade, and there would be plenty of teams looking for him.
When the Cavaliers signed Harden, they were taking on a lot, and they knew it could complicate their offseason. If they have to shake things up this summer, Mobley may be someone who has to pack his bags.
