The Cleveland Cavaliers need Donovan Mitchell to step up.
He’s their leading scorer and leader, and as such, he has to lead by example and be the first guy in the gym and the last out of it.
That’s why it’s refreshing to see that he’s already back in the lab and working on his game.
As shown in a clip shared by Hoodi Garland on X, the former Utah Jazz combo guard is working on expanding his shooting range.

Mitchell is a 36.6% shooter from beyond the arc, and he’s one of the few volume shooters in the game who can consistently knock down shots from three-point territory.
Having him add Damian Lillard-kind of range to his offense wouldn’t hurt.
As good a player as he is, he’s looked like a finished product for years now, and it seems like he hasn’t added anything to his game since his rookie season.
Of course, he was one of the few players on the roster who played well in the playoffs, and he shouldn’t be blamed for the team’s shortcomings.
Nevertheless, that’s the kind of responsibility that comes with being the face of the franchise.
Mitchell needs to add another layer to his game, and he needs to be better when defenses focus on him and rough him up in the paint.
He has yet to lead a team past the second round of the playoffs, and while it’s clearly not always on him, the team needs him to do his job when it matters most.
