The Cleveland Cavaliers were one of the best teams in basketball this season.
They had the most efficient offense and a top-ten defense for most of the year.
Unfortunately, that did little to help their case when it actually counted.
That’s why, as much as some people still want this team to run it back with their core four, Nick Wilson has had more than enough.
Talking to Jonathan Peterlin on 92.3 The Fan, he argued that this core doesn’t have what it takes to go all the way:
“I can’t lose in a five-game set again like this, and that calls for change. That calls for hard change. That’s the choice you have to make. You want to keep watching Darius and Donovan, together, and Evan and Jarrett, together, or do you want to win a championship? That’s the choice. Is change necessary for the Cavs to make the finals? Maybe not, but change is necessary for the Cavs to win the finals, and there’s never been a better time to change than right now,” Wilson said.

Of course, it’s easy to understand why some fans might feel emotionally tied to some of those players.
Nobody says they should be persona non grata or that the team should cut them or give them up for spare parts.
They’re all very good players, and they did a lot for this organization.
That doesn’t mean they’re cut out to win when it matters most.
There have been plenty of instances in which both Garland and Allen have either been non-factors or liabilities in the playoffs.
They’ve both struggled mightily in elimination games, and they’ve been a talking point in three consecutive postseasons.
The Cavs can’t expect different results if they keep doing the same thing over and over.
Hopefully, Garland and Allen will prove the doubters wrong, and they will finally take over in the playoffs.
But just hoping that they will get it together overnight might be nothing but wishful thinking at this point.
The sample size is big enough.
