The 2024-25 season came to a disappointing end for the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, as they were taken down 114-105 by the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Now that the season is complete, fans are wondering what is next for the team.
According to Zach Buckley for Bleacher Report, the Cavs should keep an eye on one promising point guard.
“While Cleveland’s general offseason activity feels a bit tricky to pin down, it seems more likely than not the Cavaliers will be in the market for a new backup point guard,” Buckley wrote. “The Cavs could try making a push for [Jose] Alvarado. He’s been a consistent energizer for the Pelicans, but it’s hard to imagine he’s anywhere close to off-limits. He is a plucky player with solid defensive instincts, but he’s also undersized and generally inefficient as a scorer.”
Jose Alvarado could bring a lot to the Cavaliers next season.
In 2024-25, he averaged 10.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists on 39.2 percent from the field.
He is one of the most energetic and exciting players for the New Orleans Pelicans, which is one of the reasons why the Cavaliers might make a move for him.
The Pels just had one of their worst seasons ever, and they are not content to stay the same.
Even though much of the bad luck in 2024-25 was out of their hands, they are still probably going to be busy during the offseason.
So, they could part ways with Alvarado and others.
He wouldn’t solve all of Cleveland’s problems, but he could give the roster a boost, without costing the front office too much money.
Cavaliers fans should keep a close eye on Alvarado and the Cavaliers in the weeks and months ahead.
